Interacciones de los Virus Entomopatógenos y su Efecto sobre la Actividad Biológica

Resumen

Los virus entomopatógenos son objeto de investigación de diversos trabajos dirigidos al control microbial de insectos plaga, la ingeniería genética, la terapia génica, la química y la expresión de proteínas. En el área de control biológico de insectos, las interacciones virus-virus determinan cambios en el curso de la infección, como resultado de una concurrente o previa infección con una especie o cepa viral diferente. La mayoría de estas interacciones han sido descubiertas por casualidad y rara vez han sido estudiadas sistemáticamente; aunque la actual evidencia sugiere que dichas interacciones son comunes y críticas para entender la patogénesis viral en hospederos naturales. En esta revisión se analizan tres sistemas de clasificación de las interacciones virales: (1) interacciones directas de genes virales o productos de genes, (2) interacciones indirectas que resultan en la alteración del medio ambiente del hospedero, e (3) interacciones que alteran el sistema inmune del insecto. Dado que las interacciones virales documentadas han mostrado tener un efecto significativo en la patogénesis viral, es necesario profundizar en el estudio de genes, proteínas y vías de señalización involucradas, que permitan un mayor conocimiento y por lo tanto una posible aplicación de este tipo de relaciones.
