Abstract

Rhizoctonia solani Kühn is a natural habitat fungus of the soil, which in its pathogenic state affects economically important crops, herbaceous plants, pastures and forestry, making it a microorganism of recurrent study, being the aim of this review, to present updated information on research done on different aspects of R. solani. The scientific papers reviewed corresponded to articles published between 2017 and 2022, in specialized journals and the analysis of the information focused on five topics inherent to the pathogen: biology, genetics, epidemiology, diagnosis and control, which will allow to expand the vision that we have in recent years, on the behavior of R. solani in relation to its genetic variability, the effects derived from the host-pathogen-environment interaction and the possibilities of management and control of the pathologies it causes. The review made possible to sustain that R. solani continues to be a relevant pathogen around the world, with high genetic variability due to its anastomosis groups, which has led it to establish parasitic relationships with different hosts and in a wide range of environmental conditions, still being considered difficult to manage. On the other hand, advances are reported in diagnostic techniques, biological and molecular characterization and in the evaluation of different control measures, facilitating the identification, design and application of adequate strategies for integrated management of diseases caused by R. solani.
